Where moisture becomes a quality, energy or compliance problem.

Across food, forestry, pulp, mining, pharma, chemicals, battery materials, sludge and recycling, excess or inconsistent moisture can affect specification, throughput, storage, energy use, emissions and process safety.

Forestry / Biomass

Variable moisture affects energy value, storage and downstream densification.

Wood, bark, fibre and biomass can vary widely in moisture and bulk density before pelletizing, combustion or material use.

Drying objective: deliver stable moisture and predictable downstream performance.
Pulp / Paper

Wet fibre and sludge streams can create high transport and handling loads.

Pulp fibre, paper sludge and deinking residues can require substantial moisture reduction before recovery or disposal.

Drying objective: reduce water mass while preserving the intended material value.
Mining / Minerals

Filter cake moisture can limit handling, transport and downstream processing.

Ore concentrates, mineral cake and fines may need controlled drying without excessive dust generation or product degradation.

Drying objective: reach a stable moisture target compatible with downstream transport or processing.
Battery / Advanced Materials

Residual moisture can affect high-value material handling and downstream performance.

Graphite, precursor and specialty powders can require controlled thermal exposure, clean handling and repeatable final moisture.

Drying objective: define the drying basis around chemistry, sensitivity and final specification.
Chemical / Solvent

Residual moisture or solvent can cause caking, instability or off-spec product.

Chemical cakes, salts and crystals may also introduce corrosion, solvent-vapour, dust or explosion-risk considerations.

Drying objective: match the dryer to material behaviour, construction materials and hazard profile.
Sludge / Residuals

Wet solids carry excess mass and disposal burden.

Municipal and industrial sludge may require substantial evaporation before transport, disposal, thermal use or resource recovery.

Drying objective: reduce water mass and stabilize solids around the intended downstream route.
Dust / ATEX

Combustible dust or vapour can create an explosive atmosphere in or around drying equipment.

Swedish workplace rules require investigation, risk assessment, zone classification and an explosion-protection document where explosive atmospheres can occur; equipment selection must match the classified zone.

Drying objective: identify dust or vapour properties, zones and ATEX equipment requirements before final design.
Sweden / EU Conformity

Late conformity decisions can force redesign or delay commissioning.

Machinery, electrical, EMC, ATEX, pressure-equipment, food-contact and environmental requirements can affect component selection, technical documentation, exhaust treatment and site interfaces.

Drying objective: identify applicable Swedish/EU requirements during project engineering rather than after shipment.

Prove the drying basis before committing to the machine.

01

Dried & Tested pilot validation

Representative material can be trialed to establish drying behaviour, target moisture, residence time and a practical scale-up basis before final equipment selection.

02

Material-first dryer selection

Band, paddle, rotary, fluid-bed, tray and other dryer types are considered according to the material rather than forcing every application into one machine.

03

Energy-conscious process design

Airflow, heat input, recirculation and residence time are engineered around the evaporation load and available plant utilities.

04

Continuous industrial throughput

Systems can be configured for continuous production where batch drying creates labour, consistency or capacity limitations.

05

Integration with the Swedish plant process

Feeding, conveying, drying, cooling, controls, hygiene, dust management, exhaust treatment and downstream interfaces can be evaluated as one process.

06

Sweden / EU conformity planning

Applicable machinery, electrical, EMC, ATEX, pressure-equipment, food-contact and environmental requirements can be reviewed during engineering so the conformity path is defined before shipment.

From moisture problem to a validated drying basis.

Before equipment size and commercial scope are fixed, we establish what must be evaporated, how the material behaves, what utilities are available, what the dried product must achieve and which Swedish/EU technical requirements need to be considered.

01 / APPLICATION DATA

Define the Swedish plant requirement

Material, feed rate, inlet moisture, target moisture, operating hours, temperature limits, utilities, plant location and downstream objective.

02 / DRIED & TESTED

Pilot Trial

Where appropriate, test representative material to validate drying behaviour and practical operating conditions before scale-up.

03 / PROCESS + CONFORMITY

System Design

Develop evaporation load, residence time, airflow, heating, material movement, controls, risk assessment, exhaust treatment and the applicable Swedish/EU conformity path.

04 / PROJECT EXECUTION

Supply & Commissioning Support

Coordinate manufacturing, technical documentation, Swedish-language documentation where required, installation supervision, commissioning and interfaces with notified or accredited bodies where applicable.

Industrial dryer questions Swedish plants ask before they buy.

These are the process, engineering, safety, conformity, environmental, operations and procurement points typically established before selecting an industrial dryer for Sweden.

What Sweden industries can GEM Drytech support with industrial drying systems?
We work across food and ingredients, dairy, grain, brewing and fermentation, seafood, animal feed and aquafeed, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, enzymes, specialty chemicals, forestry and biomass, pulp and paper, mining and minerals, metals, battery materials, sludge, recycling, fertilizer and construction minerals.
Can GEM Drytech test our material before we invest in a full-scale dryer?
Yes. Through the Dried & Tested pilot program, representative material can be evaluated to establish drying behaviour, operating conditions and a practical design basis before final equipment selection.
Can the dryer be designed around our required final moisture and production rate?
Yes. Dryer configuration is developed around feed moisture, target final moisture, throughput, thermal sensitivity, particle characteristics, utilities, hygiene or containment needs and downstream process requirements.
Which machinery rules apply to an industrial dryer placed on the Swedish market in 2026?
As of September 2026, Sweden applies AFS 2023:4 Products – Machinery, which implements Directive 2006/42/EC. Arbetsmiljöverket states that the new Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 starts applying on 20 January 2027, when the current Swedish machinery provisions cease to apply. The applicable route should therefore be confirmed against the actual placing-on-the-market or commissioning date.
Does an industrial dryer for Sweden require CE marking?
Machinery within the scope of AFS 2023:4 must follow the applicable conformity-assessment route and be CE marked before being placed on the market or put into service. A new assembled machine must also be assessed as a complete assembly, including interfaces and safety functions.
What language should machine documentation use in Sweden?
Swedish-language operating and safety documentation should be planned for equipment supplied to Swedish end users. Product-specific rules can also set explicit Swedish-language requirements; for example, AFS 2023:5 requires the EU Declaration of Conformity for pressure equipment to be prepared in or translated into Swedish, and ATEX product rules require Swedish instructions and safety information for products supplied on the Swedish market.
What electrical requirements should be considered for Sweden?
Electrical equipment within the relevant voltage scope can fall under ELSÄK-FS 2016:1, which implements Directive 2014/35/EU. Electrical design of the dryer should be coordinated with the machine's overall conformity route and the site's electrical installation requirements.
What EMC requirements apply to dryer controls, VFDs and electrical equipment?
Sweden's ELSÄK-FS 2016:3 implements Directive 2014/30/EU on electromagnetic compatibility. PLCs, VFDs, motors, control cabinets, cabling and instrumentation should be designed and integrated so the applicable EMC requirements are met.
What applies if combustible dust, solvent vapour or gas can create an explosive atmosphere?
For non-electrical equipment and protection systems intended for potentially explosive atmospheres, AFS 2023:7 implements Directive 2014/34/EU. Swedish workplace rules in AFS 2023:10 separately require investigation, risk assessment, zone classification and an explosion-protection document where explosive atmospheres can occur, with equipment categories matched to zones 0/20, 1/21 and 2/22.
What applies if the dryer package includes pressure equipment or steam systems?
AFS 2023:5 applies, subject to stated exclusions, to pressure equipment and assemblies with maximum allowable pressure above 0.5 bar and implements Directive 2014/68/EU. Classification, conformity assessment, CE marking and notified-body involvement depend on fluid group, pressure, volume or nominal size and equipment category.
Can a food dryer be designed around Swedish food-contact requirements?
Yes. Food-contact surfaces can be designed around the EU framework applied in Sweden, including Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 and Regulation (EC) 2023/2006 on good manufacturing practice. Material selection, cleanability, seals, coatings and hygienic access should be confirmed for the specific food application.
What environmental or air-emission requirements can affect a dryer project in Sweden?
Industrial activities can be subject to permits and BAT requirements under the Swedish Environmental Code, the Environmental Assessment Ordinance and the Industrial Emissions Ordinance. Depending on the activity, capacity and emissions, heat source, exhaust air, dust, VOCs, wastewater, energy use and waste handling can affect the plant's permit conditions.
Is there one universal Sweden certification for a complete industrial dryer?
No. The conformity route is project-specific. A complete dryer can be affected by machinery, electrical, EMC, ATEX, pressure-equipment, food-contact, environmental and other requirements depending on configuration and intended use. CE marking does not replace the need to determine which legislation actually applies.
When is a notified body or external conformity-assessment body required?
Third-party involvement is required only where the applicable legislation and chosen conformity-assessment route require it. Certain pressure-equipment and ATEX categories, and some higher-risk machinery routes under the applicable machinery framework, can require notified-body involvement. The exact route should be defined from the final equipment classification.
What responsibilities apply when machinery is imported into Sweden from outside the EU/EEA?
The applicable product legislation places duties on manufacturers, authorised representatives, importers and distributors. Importer responsibilities can include checking CE marking, conformity documentation, traceability and required instructions before the product is placed on the Swedish market.
Can GEM Drytech provide Sweden/EU-market-compatible components and documentation?
Yes. Component selection, electrical architecture, PLC/HMI controls, motors, VFDs, safety devices, instrumentation, enclosure ratings, drawings, Swedish-language manuals where required, risk documentation, declarations and applicable conformity evidence can be specified during project engineering according to the final machine configuration and customer requirements.
What information should we share to receive a dryer recommendation?
Please share the material name and composition, feed rate, inlet moisture, required final moisture, operating hours, particle or sludge characteristics, temperature limits, available heating source, electrical supply, Swedish plant location and intended use of the dried product.
