Where moisture becomes a quality, energy or compliance problem.

Across food, wine, dairy, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, chemical, feed, biomass, sludge and recycling processes, excess or inconsistent moisture can affect specification, throughput, storage, hygiene, emissions, energy use and process safety.

Food / Dairy

Final moisture must be repeatable without compromising product quality or hygiene.

Food and dairy ingredients can be sensitive to overheating, colour, flavour, texture, cleanability and residence time.

Drying objective: achieve stable final moisture with controlled temperature, airflow and hygienic handling.
Wine / Grape

Wet grape co-products can lose value quickly if not stabilized.

Pomace, skins, seeds and lees can require controlled drying for ingredients, extraction, feed, energy or other valorization routes.

Drying objective: reduce moisture around the intended valorization route without unnecessary thermal damage.
Pharma / Biotech

Sensitive materials need narrow thermal and moisture control.

APIs, intermediates and biological materials may require controlled temperature, containment and validated final moisture.

Drying objective: define the drying basis around sensitivity, containment, residence time and final specification.
Cosmetics / Botanicals

High-value ingredients require clean processing and controlled thermal exposure.

Botanical extracts, cosmetic powders and functional ingredients can be sensitive to contamination, oxidation, colour and active-component degradation.

Drying objective: control moisture while preserving material quality and clean handling.
Chemical / Pigment

Residual moisture can cause caking, instability or off-spec product.

Salts, crystals, pigments and intermediates can also introduce corrosion, solvent, dust or explosion-risk considerations.

Drying objective: match the dryer to material behaviour, temperature limits, construction materials and hazard profile.
Biomass / Wood

Variable moisture lowers fuel value and densification performance.

Wood and biomass can vary in moisture, particle size and bulk density before pelletizing, storage or combustion.

Drying objective: deliver stable moisture and predictable downstream performance.
Sludge / Residuals

Wet solids carry excess mass and disposal burden.

Sewage and industrial sludge may require substantial evaporation before transport, disposal, thermal use or resource recovery.

Drying objective: reduce water mass and stabilize solids around the intended downstream route.
France / EU Conformity

Late conformity decisions can force redesign or delay commissioning.

Machinery, electrical, EMC, ATEX, pressure-equipment, gas, food-contact and environmental requirements can affect component selection, documentation, exhaust treatment and site interfaces.

Drying objective: identify applicable French/EU requirements during project engineering rather than after shipment.

Prove the drying basis before committing to the machine.

01

Dried & Tested pilot validation

Representative material can be trialed to establish drying behaviour, target moisture, residence time and a practical scale-up basis before final equipment selection.

02

Material-first dryer selection

Band, paddle, rotary, fluid-bed, tray and other dryer types are considered according to the material rather than forcing every application into one machine.

03

Energy-conscious process design

Airflow, heat input, recirculation and residence time are engineered around the evaporation load and available plant utilities.

04

Continuous industrial throughput

Systems can be configured for continuous production where batch drying creates labour, consistency or capacity limitations.

05

Integration with the French plant process

Feeding, conveying, drying, cooling, controls, hygiene, dust management, exhaust treatment and downstream interfaces can be evaluated as one process.

06

France / EU conformity planning

Applicable machinery, electrical, EMC, ATEX, pressure-equipment, gas, food-contact and environmental requirements can be reviewed during engineering so the conformity path is defined before shipment.

From moisture problem to a validated drying basis.

Before equipment size and commercial scope are fixed, we establish what must be evaporated, how the material behaves, what utilities are available, what the dried product must achieve and which French/EU technical requirements need to be considered.

01 / APPLICATION DATA

Define the French plant requirement

Material, feed rate, inlet moisture, target moisture, operating hours, temperature limits, utilities, plant location and downstream objective.

02 / DRIED & TESTED

Pilot Trial

Where appropriate, test representative material to validate drying behaviour and practical operating conditions before scale-up.

03 / PROCESS + CONFORMITY

System Design

Develop evaporation load, residence time, airflow, heating, material movement, controls, risk assessment, exhaust treatment and the applicable French/EU conformity path.

04 / PROJECT EXECUTION

Supply & Commissioning Support

Coordinate manufacturing, technical documentation, installation supervision, commissioning and interfaces with local inspection or notified-body processes where applicable.

Industrial dryer questions France plants ask before they buy.

These are the points plant, operations, engineering, sustainability and procurement teams typically need to establish before selecting an industrial dryer.

What France industries can GEM Drytech support with industrial drying systems?
We work across food and ingredients, dairy, bakery and cereals, wine and grape processing, fruit and vegetables, animal feed and pet food, seafood, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, nutraceuticals, cosmetics, specialty chemicals, pigments, pulp and paper, biomass, sludge, recycling, fertilizer, minerals, ceramics and advanced materials.
Can GEM Drytech test our material before we invest in a full-scale dryer?
Yes. Through the Dried & Tested pilot program, representative material can be evaluated to establish drying behaviour, operating conditions and a practical design basis before final equipment selection.
Can the dryer be designed around our required final moisture and production rate?
Yes. Dryer configuration is developed around feed moisture, target final moisture, throughput, thermal sensitivity, particle characteristics, utilities, hygiene or containment needs and downstream process requirements.
Which machinery rules apply to an industrial dryer placed on the French market in 2026?
As of September 2026, machinery placed on the French market remains subject to the current machinery framework implementing Directive 2006/42/EC, including the French Labour Code requirements for CE conformity declaration and CE marking. Regulation (EU) 2023/1230 on machinery applies from 20 January 2027. The applicable route should therefore be confirmed against the actual date the machine is placed on the market or put into service.
Does an industrial dryer for France require CE marking?
Where the complete machine falls within the applicable machinery and other EU product legislation, the manufacturer must complete the relevant conformity assessment, prepare the required technical documentation and declaration, and affix CE marking as required. CE marking is a legal conformity marking, not a general quality certification.
What language should machinery and conformity documentation use in France?
French-language documentation should be planned for equipment supplied to the French market. For example, French rules implementing the Low Voltage and EMC Directives require the EU Declaration of Conformity to be drafted or translated into French for products placed on the French market. Machine instructions and safety information should likewise be supplied in the language required by the applicable machinery rules and end-user obligations.
What electrical requirements should be considered for France?
Electrical equipment within the relevant voltage scope can fall under Directive 2014/35/EU, transposed in France by Decree No. 2015-1083. The decree requires technical documentation, conformity assessment, an EU Declaration of Conformity and CE marking for electrical equipment within its scope. Electrical design of the dryer should also be coordinated with the overall machinery conformity route.
What EMC requirements apply to dryer controls, VFDs and electrical equipment?
Directive 2014/30/EU on electromagnetic compatibility is transposed in France by Decree No. 2015-1084. PLCs, VFDs, motors, control cabinets, cabling and instrumentation should be designed and integrated to meet the applicable EMC requirements. The decree also requires the EU Declaration of Conformity for equipment placed on the French market to be drafted or translated into French.
What applies if combustible dust, solvent vapour or gas can create an explosive atmosphere?
Equipment and protective systems intended for potentially explosive atmospheres can fall under Directive 2014/34/EU (ATEX equipment), implemented in France through the Environmental Code provisions for such products. The process should also assess workplace explosion risks, zone classification, ignition sources, surface temperatures and the required equipment category for the actual installation.
What applies if the dryer package includes pressure equipment or steam systems?
Pressure equipment can fall under Directive 2014/68/EU and the French Environmental Code framework. France also applies the Order of 20 November 2017 for in-service monitoring of pressure equipment and simple pressure vessels. Depending on pressure, volume, fluid and equipment type, declaration, commissioning control, periodic inspection or other in-service obligations can apply.
What applies to gas-fired dryers or burner systems?
Where a gas appliance or fitting falls within scope, Regulation (EU) 2016/426 can apply. Burner, gas-train, appliance and site-gas responsibilities should be defined during engineering because not every complete industrial dryer follows one identical gas-appliance conformity route.
Can a food dryer be designed around French food-hygiene and food-contact requirements?
Yes. Food applications can be engineered around cleanability, hygienic access, suitable product-contact materials and contamination control. EU rules include Regulation (EC) 852/2004 on food hygiene and Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 on food-contact materials. France also applies national rules and DGCCRF guidance, including Decree No. 2007-766, for food-contact materials and articles.
What environmental or air-emission requirements can affect a fuel-fired dryer in France?
Industrial sites in France can fall within the ICPE framework where their activities or capacities meet the relevant classification thresholds. Depending on the site and process, requirements can address air emissions, combustion, odour, wastewater, waste, noise, accident prevention and operating conditions. The plant should confirm its ICPE status and site-specific permit or declaration requirements before finalizing exhaust and heat-source design.
Is there one universal France certification for a complete industrial dryer?
No. The conformity route is project-specific. A complete dryer can be affected by machinery, electrical, EMC, ATEX, pressure-equipment, gas, food-contact, environmental and other requirements depending on configuration and intended use. CE marking does not replace the need to determine which legislation actually applies.
When is a notified body or external conformity-assessment body required?
Third-party involvement is required only where the applicable legislation and selected conformity-assessment procedure require it. Many machinery, electrical and EMC routes can be manufacturer-led, while certain pressure-equipment, ATEX, gas or other regulated categories can require a notified or accredited body. In France, accreditation of conformity-assessment bodies can involve COFRAC depending on the regulatory scheme.
What responsibilities apply when machinery is imported into France from outside the EEA?
The manufacturer remains responsible for meeting the applicable product requirements, while an importer established in the EEA can have verification, documentation and traceability duties under the relevant legislation. The manufacturer, importer, authorised representative and end-user roles should therefore be agreed before shipment.
Can GEM Drytech provide France/EU-market-compatible components and documentation?
Yes. Component selection, electrical architecture, PLC/HMI controls, motors, VFDs, safety devices, instrumentation, enclosure ratings, drawings, French-language manuals, risk documentation, declarations and applicable conformity evidence can be specified during project engineering according to the final machine configuration and customer requirements.
What information should we share to receive a dryer recommendation?
Please share the material name and composition, feed rate, inlet moisture, required final moisture, operating hours, particle or sludge characteristics, temperature limits, available heating source, electrical supply, French plant location and intended use of the dried product.
