Built around the moisture problems Canadian plants need to solve.

Gem Drytech provides custom industrial drying systems for Canadian processors across biomass, forestry, pulp and paper, food, grain and pulse ingredients, feed, biosolids, chemicals, fertilizer and minerals. Projects can be engineered for plants in Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Atlantic Canada, subject to site-specific requirements. Dryer selection is based on feed rate, inlet and target moisture, evaporation load, heat source, material behaviour, automation, emissions and dust-handling needs, and the intended use of the dried product.

How is the dryer selected? The drying basis is developed from feed rate, inlet and target moisture, evaporation load, thermal sensitivity, particle or sludge characteristics, available heat source, emissions and dust-handling needs, automation, site requirements and downstream use. Representative material can also be evaluated through Gem Drytech’s Dried & Tested pilot program before final equipment selection.

Where Canadian plants lose value when moisture stays in the process.

Across seafood, grain, pulse, food, feed, forestry, fertilizer, chemical and mineral processing, excess or inconsistent moisture can restrict throughput, increase energy and handling burden, reduce product value and make downstream operations harder to control.

Seafood / Fish

High-moisture seafood streams lose stability quickly.

Fish and shellfish by-products can be difficult to store, transport or recover when water content remains high.

Drying objective: stabilize the material while protecting the downstream value route.
Grain / Pulse

Moisture variation creates storage and product-consistency risk.

Grains, pulses and plant-protein fractions may require a narrow final moisture range for storage, milling, blending or packaging.

Drying objective: achieve repeatable final moisture while protecting product quality.
Fruit / Pomace

Seasonal pomace can become a handling bottleneck.

Cranberry, blueberry, apple and other pomace streams can accumulate quickly during harvest and processing campaigns.

Drying objective: convert a wet seasonal stream into stable fibre or recoverable feedstock.
Forestry / Wood

Wet wood reduces useful energy and limits densification.

Wood chips, sawdust and other forestry materials can arrive with wide moisture variation before pelletizing, briquetting or combustion.

Drying objective: deliver stable moisture for fuel quality and dependable downstream performance.
Feed / Pet Food

Product moisture affects shelf stability and pellet quality.

Animal feed, pet food and aquafeed need controlled drying to support texture, flowability, coating and packing.

Drying objective: achieve repeatable final moisture at the required production rate.
Chemicals / Fertilizer

Residual moisture can cause caking, agglomeration or off-spec product.

Powders, crystals, salts, fertilizer and potash-related materials may require controlled thermal exposure and defined final moisture.

Drying objective: select the dryer around particle behaviour, corrosion, dust, temperature limit and throughput.
Mining / Minerals

Wet concentrate and filter cake increase handling burden.

Mineral streams can be abrasive, dense and variable, requiring robust solids handling and dependable evaporation capacity.

Drying objective: reduce moisture to the specification required for transport, storage or downstream processing.
Plant Throughput

The existing dryer is the production bottleneck.

Long batch cycles, limited heat transfer or poorly matched equipment can cap output even when other process equipment has spare capacity.

Drying objective: engineer residence time, heat input, airflow and material movement around the required line capacity.

Prove the drying basis before committing to the machine.

01

Dried & Tested pilot validation

Representative material can be trialed to establish drying behaviour, target moisture, residence time and a practical scale-up basis before final equipment selection.

02

Material-first dryer selection

Band, paddle, rotary, fluid-bed, tray and other dryer types are considered according to the material rather than forcing every application into one machine.

03

Energy-conscious process design

Airflow, heat input, recirculation and residence time are engineered around the evaporation load and available plant utilities.

04

Continuous industrial throughput

Systems can be configured for continuous production where batch drying creates labour, consistency or capacity limitations.

05

Canadian plant integration

Feeding, conveying, drying, cooling, controls, electrical supply, utility interfaces and downstream equipment are evaluated as one process.

06

Approval-ready engineering path

Electrical, gas-fired, pressure-containing and food-contact requirements can be reviewed early so the project approval route is defined before shipment.

From moisture problem to a validated drying basis.

Before equipment size and commercial scope are fixed, we establish what must be evaporated, how the material behaves, what utilities are available, what the dried product must achieve and which Canadian approvals apply.

Industrial dryer questions Canadian plants ask before they buy.

These are the points plant, operations, engineering, sustainability and procurement teams typically need to establish before selecting an industrial dryer.

What Canadian industries can GEM Drytech support with industrial drying systems?

We work across seafood and fish processing, food and beverage, grains and cereals, pulse and plant protein, potato processing, fruit and berry processing, animal feed, pet food, aquafeed, brewing and distilling, forestry and wood products, pulp and fibre, chemicals, fertilizer and potash, pharmaceuticals, mining, minerals and advanced materials. Final dryer selection depends on the material, moisture, throughput and product target.

Can GEM Drytech test our material before we invest in a full-scale dryer?

Yes. Through our Dried & Tested pilot program, representative material can be evaluated to establish drying behaviour, operating conditions and a practical design basis before final equipment selection.

Can the dryer be designed around our required final moisture and production rate?

Yes. Dryer configuration is developed around feed moisture, target final moisture, throughput, thermal sensitivity, particle characteristics, available utilities, site conditions and downstream process requirements.

What heating sources can be used for a Canadian industrial dryer?

Depending on the application, systems can be engineered around steam, thermal oil, electricity, hot air or flue gas, waste heat, heat pumps and other suitable heat sources. The preferred option is evaluated against product sensitivity, utility availability, approval requirements and operating cost.

Can GEM Drytech dryers be configured for Canadian compliance standards and certification requirements?

Yes. Depending on the equipment and installation, the engineering package can be developed around applicable Canadian requirements such as CSA C22.1 (Canadian Electrical Code), CSA C22.2 No. 301 for industrial electrical machinery, CSA C22.2 No. 286 for industrial control panels, SPE-1000 field evaluation where appropriate, CSA B51 / CRN requirements for regulated pressure equipment, CSA B149 requirements for applicable gas-fired systems, and CFIA / SFCR hygienic-design requirements for food applications. The final approval path is confirmed with the customer, province/territory and AHJ.

Is every GEM dryer automatically CSA certified?

No. A complete dryer should only be described as CSA certified when the specific equipment has been certified and marked by the applicable accredited certification body. For Canadian projects, the route may instead use Canadian-certified components, a certified control panel, complete machine certification, or a site-specific SPE-1000 field evaluation. The required route is defined during project engineering.

Can the dryer electrical system be designed for Canadian 60 Hz plant power?

Yes. The electrical package can be configured for the confirmed Canadian plant supply and 60 Hz operation. Common industrial voltages vary by facility, so motors, VFDs, PLC/HMI panels, protection devices, disconnects and control voltage are selected against the customer's electrical specification rather than assumed.

Can GEM Drytech use Canadian-approved electrical components?

Yes. Where specified, the bill of materials can prioritize components carrying Canadian-recognized certification marks or listings suitable for the intended use. The complete machine or panel still follows the project-specific certification or field-evaluation route; component approval alone does not automatically approve the finished dryer.

When is SPE-1000 field evaluation relevant?

SPE-1000 can be relevant for custom or limited-quantity electrical equipment when conventional model certification is not practical. A recognized field-evaluation body assesses the equipment and, when compliant, applies the appropriate label. The local AHJ determines acceptance for the installation.

What applies if the dryer includes pressure vessels, heat exchangers or pressure piping?

Applicable Canadian pressure-equipment requirements are reviewed during engineering. Depending on the component and province or territory, this can include CSA B51, applicable ASME construction codes and Canadian Registration Number (CRN) registration.

What applies to gas-fired hot-air generators or burner systems in Canada?

For natural-gas or propane systems, the project may need to address CSA B149 installation and field-approval requirements, together with provincial or territorial fuel-safety rules and the local AHJ. The exact burner and gas-train approval scope is confirmed before finalizing the package.

Can the dryer be configured for Canadian food-processing hygiene requirements?

Yes. For food applications, the equipment can be designed around cleanability, suitable food-contact materials, drainage, access for sanitation and inspection, contamination prevention and process monitoring consistent with CFIA / Safe Food for Canadians Regulations expectations. Plant-specific HACCP or preventive-control requirements are also considered.

Do you support installation and commissioning for Canadian projects?

Project support can include engineering coordination, installation supervision, commissioning and operating guidance. Where specified, GEM can also coordinate technical documentation needed by the customer's local certification, inspection or field-evaluation provider.

What information should we share to receive a dryer recommendation?

Please share the material name and composition, feed rate, inlet moisture, required final moisture, operating hours, particle or product characteristics, temperature limits, available heating source, Canadian plant location, electrical supply and the intended use of the dried product.
